An Office Guest Room Combo

Hello there!

So glad you stopped by the blog today! I’ve struggled and fought with this space the whole time we’ve lived here! And I can honestly say that this room finally feels complete and functional as an office guest room combo. Or at least as complete as it will be for the remaining time we’ll be here 😉

Figuring Out Function

As you know our home is small, which we enjoy. But having only two bedrooms makes it extra essential to really utilize every inch. This room has always served as an office/catch all the spill over space, which just wasn’t really functional at all. I prefer to work from my laptop wherever I’m in the mood to but it was still important for the space to be a landing place for paperwork and other office type essentials. Plus the room doesn’t have a closet and I needed storage for other craft supplies.

We only have the occasional guest or two but it’s still important for us to have a comfortable place for them to stay. And when I found this darling antique bed I knew it would be the perfect solution!

Decor

I actually found this gorgeous vintage sheep painting long before the rest of this corner came together. It’s one of my absolute favorite pieces of art! As always I love adding a some architectural salvage. In this case an old porch post propped up in the corner. I also added some books on a little white chippy stool for height as a nightstand. And then you know I had to throw a crock in there!

This antique twin bed fulfills the guest room function of the space.  The quilt I found at Target you can find it HERE! It has a really old textile look to it, which I love! The chenille throw is vintage.

The Rug

I really wanted something to ground this space and this striped rug from Rugs USA does the job really well! Stripes are such an easy pattern to that I like to carry throughout our home to create cohesiveness. If you’re in the market for a rug for any space you should definitely check out Rugs USA! I rave about them often not only for their excellent quality rugs and low prices BUT also because of their website! They have this amazing feature that lets you photograph your space and then view any of their rugs in it! It’s seriously awesome and makes choosing a rug so easy!

The Office

Now for the office part of the combo. I found this amazing possum belly or bakers cabinet on the Facebook Marketplace. I dreamed one day of having a space for it in our kitchen but also thought it would serve well as a repurposed desk! It’s perfect and adds so much interest in the room!

Much Needed Storage

I’ve grown used to getting creative with storage solutions in our little old house and thank goodness for a big basement 😉 But you can see how I manage to keep things organized that in other spaces of our home HERE. When I spied this white chippy beadboard cabinet on a trip up north and just knew it would work well here! It isn’t very deep but has plenty of room for all the things!

And that’s about it folks! It’s a small space that now has tons of function as an office guest room combo and is pretty stinking cute to boot! I hope you enjoyed this little tour and that it inspires you in some small way! Someone told me the other day they loved that we don’t “live small” in our small home, which I thought was so interesting! It never dawned on me that living in a small home would mean compromising style or function and I hope you never feel that it does either! No matter it’s size your home should meet all your needs and be aesthetically pleasing!
