Antique Farmhouse Kitchen Light Fixture
Hey there friend!
I hope you had a wonderful and safe 4th of July weekend! I think we’re still recovering from all the fun in the sun lol! But we’ve been making some progress in the kitchen that I’m excited to share starting with our “new” antique farmhouse kitchen light fixture!
I’m linking a few kitchen blog posts and products at the end of this article but let me know if I can help you find anything!

Choosing and Blending Lighting
Lighting is one of my favorite things and it’s so important! Not only can it really make a strong aesthetic presence, but it impacts the way everything else in the room looks when it’s on. Lighting is one of the first decor pieces I’ll be choosing specifically for this house as we renovate, which makes it extra fun! As with most other elements I want the house to have a combination of old and new light fixtures, while maintaining a cohesive look throughout.
And then I chose a schoolhouse style fixture for our bedroom and I’ll link that HERE
Kitchen Lighting
You can see both of those fixtures are black and white. I chose to incorporate black as a finish because it’s already found throughout the house with door hinges etc. and it’s a really timeless look. But for the kitchen I decided I wanted an oldie 😉 I’ve spent A LOT of time in antique stores, flea markets, and vintage markets over the past few years and I had a pretty good idea of the style I wanted, it was just a matter or finding it!
Below are some photos of antique lighting that I love and the last picture is the style I just knew our kitchen needed 😉
Finding the Antique Light Fixture
When I was looking for the doors for our greenhouse I met an amazing guy who takes apart old houses before they’re torn down and salvages anything he can to sell. I sent him a couple of photos of similar styles to the one I wanted and he sent me back the photo of the fixture below.
It needed cleaned up, painted, and rewired, but holy moly I felt like I won the jackpot to find the right style AND size!
Salvaged Antique Light Fixture
I took apart all the hardware and removed the old wiring. Then I cleaned up the hardware with a wire brush, soap and water. Next I gave it several coats of a matte black spray paint.
After that Ed bought a piece of metal and modified and wired a new 4 socket light kit to it. We chose 4 so we could get as much light as possible from this single fixture until we eventually add recessed lighting. LED bulbs make sure that it doesn’t get too hot inside the glass bowl.
We also had to add a ceiling plate medallion because the previous fixture was off center. Our ceiling is tongue and groove wood so the plate allowed us to hide the hole from the previous fixture, while centering the new one. This medallion ties in well with the existing architectural details of the house and is the same one we used in the living room.

Ahhh! Doesn’t she look at home here in our home?! As much as I love renovating, getting to the part where I get to dress the room up is the best! I always think lighting is like the houses accessories and I want her to have some pretty earrings that fit her style 😉
I love that the glass bowl is more ornate and adds a lot of detail and interest, without being too much for the room. The black chains also tie in with the living room chandelier perfectly. Plus no more yucky ceiling fan!! Whoo hoo! Lol!
More kitchen updates coming soon and I linked some previous ones below! Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
