Antique Harvest Table Kitchen Island
Hey there!
Now that the kitchen renovation is *mostly* complete 😉 I’m excited to share more about the things we’ve added to our 1880s Victorian farmhouse kitchen! And I’m starting with the antique harvest table kitchen island!
You can see the more photos of the completed kitchen renovation HERE!
Antique Harvest Table
A harvest table is a long narrow table named for the post harvest gatherings that took place around them. They were commonly used as a central workspace in the kitchen. Â I found this table shortly after we moved here. It came with six chairs, which you can see below.
Originally I planned on using it as a dining table. And technically we did twice, but it just isn’t quite big enough for our family. Right now the room we’re using as the living room is actually the dining room and will be again once we complete the next room. This gives me some time to find the perfect dining table 🙂
The Island Switch
The store counter island was something I always wanted to try. It was super cool and functional too. But it also took up a lot of space for the amount of function we got from it. It also took up a lot of visual space. When we started to plan out the new layout I realized this table would be perfect.Â
It fits the original design style of  kitchen, and we were told it was made sometime in the late 1800s. It feels like it is meant to be here.  I like that it’s a dark wood tone and still grounds the room without taking up too much physical space. And it’s given us such a big workspace!
Harvest Table Features
The harvest table includes a drawer for storage and a built in cutting board. It also has such beautiful legs and little wood casters, which make it easy to move around. The table came with six primitive woven seat chairs. I absolutely love their darling crooked charm!
I’m thinking about hanging a couple on the wall in this room and bringing the other 4 in when we want/need them. Otherwise they can surround a table in another room. I really enjoy that the table gives us different options.
Antique Harvest Table Kitchen Island
Looking back it seems like we’ve been pulling parts of this kitchen together since we first moved in whether we knew it or not! As with all our antiques I like to imagine all the life this table has seen. Happy gatherings of friends and family, and countless meals prepared with love.  We’re especially grateful to enjoy it this holiday season. Christmas cookies here I come! 😉Â
I hope you’re making wonderful memories with the ones you love!

Oh my gosh! Thank you!

Wow! To be honest I loved the old look – floors, counter, hutch, etc… – and cringed watching the changes taking place. HOW COULD THEY! Well, haha on me, I think the change is absolutely beautiful! What a wonderful job you two did. I love the sink but am curious if that is the only one in the kitchen and if you have concerns about it being practical? Regardless, the kitchen is a show stopper!
Amanda
Thank you! It definitely feels “right” now for the home and for us. Stay tuned about the sink 😉

Thanks Jenny! It really does take time to make each room work and feel right but I love the process of getting it there. So glad yours is feeling that way!

LOVE it! I think it’s the perfect fit for your kitchen and I love the stories it could tell, the harvest platters piled high, the games played on it, dreams discussed, arguments solved, recipes written, letters to loved ones…… to me a harvest table like this is the heart of the kitchen. I wish I had room for one.
Amanda
Yes! Oh I felt this! You’re right it truly is the heart! It’s already been a perfect addition because our families always end up in the kitchen talking and snacking.
