DIY Outdoor Dining Table

Hi there!

It’s Thanksgiving week here and we have so much to be thankful for! We’re also extra hopeful we’ll get to enjoy some beautiful weather around our new DIY outdoor dining table! Ed built this gorgeous table out of barn wood we had on hand, while I was working on the porch. I didn’t get any assembly photos, but I’ll share all the dimensions and details with ya below!

Materials Needed for Table

Ed and I have built several tables before. We’ve built a couple for ourselves and we used to build and sell them too. But we’ve been holding back some extra long beautiful barn wood for several years waiting to build a 14 ft outdoor table. A huge part of the draw of country living for us is spending as much time outdoors as possible and also gathering friends and family to enjoy it with us. This dining table allows us to do both!

We used all reclaimed materials we had on hand to build the table. The table top and apron was pulled from a local barn before it was torn down. And the legs are 2 x 4s that came from my parents old farmhouse when they remodeled, which makes it even more meaningful to us. If you don’t happen to have wood like this on hand I highly recommend checking the Facebook Marketplace for reclaimed wood! Or you can also grab treated lumber from Home Depot too!

We used:

  • 2 – 14 inch wide by 14 ft long boards for the top. They’re also almost 2 inches thick
  • 4 – 1 x 80 inch boards for the apron sides. They meet up at the legs on the center of the table
  • 2 – 1 x 24.5 inch boards for the end aprons
  • 6 – 2 x 4 x 29 inch boards for the legs
  • nails
  • hammer

Outdoor Harvest Dining Table

Harvest tables have always been a favorite of mine, but I don’t think I’ve ever loved one more than this! Ed nailed it! Literally! Lol! It took him about half a day to assemble this one and I really couldn’t be happier with it! When he was done we pressure washed it to get all the grime off from sitting in the barn…and the garage at our last house 😉 Yep we’ve been waiting for awhile for this one!

I love the natural beauty of the raw aged wood and we also don’t mind the rough texture one bit. I won’t be sanding it, but next Spring I may clean it again and then seal it, but for now she’s as is.

Outdoor Dining Chairs

Obviously the next thing I was on the hunt for was chairs for this big beauty! It easily seats 12, which is a lot of chairs to buy or track down. I found some metal ones I really liked, but even the more inexpensive options add up quickly when you need 12. Then I struck gold on the Facebook Marketplace! A local friend was selling 12 of these old folding chars that came out of a local legion hall. I got all of them for $40!!!!!

They’re a very warm, orangish tone so I’m letting them weather/sun bleach a bit. Then I’ll seal them with a clear coat unless I decide to paint them, but I’m really loving the wood on wood tones. They were really the perfect find because they do fold up easily for storage when we’re not using them.
