Farmhouse Kitchen Island

Helllooo there!

So this past weekend we purchased a farmhouse kitchen island! It’s our first vintage piece specifically for the farmhouse and I could not be more excited about it!

Where I found it

I’ve actually been searching for a vintage piece to use as a kitchen island for the last couple of months and I finally got lucky on the Facebook Marketplace. You can see several other things I’ve found on there and how I search for vintage items  HERE!

For this particular piece I searched for store counters or general store counters. I also searched old counters, antique counters, old bar counter, and antique bars. We had to drive 3 hours for the island, which meant giving up a precious Saturday, but it was 100% worth it! I mean I cried when we got it in place!

Importance of the Farmhouse Kitchen Island

Why was it worth giving up a Saturday when we have a million other things we could be doing? Because we actually really needed a kitchen island since it’s where the sink will go! If you saw the Farmhouse Before Tour then you may remember that there was already a small island in the kitchen but the previous owner hadn’t finished the plumbing for the sink. So since we knew we wanted something else anyway it was a good time to go on the hunt and I feel like we hit the jackpot!

A Functional Island

Aside from looking for a certain style I was also looking for a very specific size. I wanted the piece to have a real presence without overwhelming to room. It also needed to be big enough to serve several functions. As I mentioned this is where our kitchen sink will go. It’s also where we plan to put the dishwasher and microwave. We love that the it has so many of it’s original drawers but we may have to move or relocate them to fit our needs. I’ll be sure to share that entire process with you when the time comes! Now to find the perfect sink!

I love that it adds an originality and charm to the space that only comes with something that has history. It’s chips and knicks tell a story and that’s my favorite part. We were told it came out of a pharmacy in eastern Tennessee and who knows how many other stops it’s made on it’s way to our home 🙂

I’m so grateful you stopped by the blog today! And we’re so excited to share all the details of our fixer upper farmhouse with you! Be sure and subscribe to the blog and our YouTube channel so you never miss a thing! You can also follow me on Instagram for all the behind the scenes action!
