It’s Christmas week! I’m sure everyone is busy making last-minute preparations, shopping, baking etc. but in case you’re wanting to try something new and extra delicious this year we wanted to share one of our very favorite recipes straight from our own kitchen 🙂 Ed created this yummy stuffing dish a few years ago and while it’s a must-have during the holidays it’s one we enjoy making all year-long.
- stuffing mix
- 1 lb of beef
- 1 lb of sausage
- beef bouillon cubes (4)
- sweet peppers (20-25)
- minced garlic
- 1 red onion
- 1 container of white mushrooms
- 1 stick of butter
Sauté both the sausage and the beef until browned. While it’s cooking you can season to taste, we use minced garlic salt and 4 bouillon cubes.
Chop up the onion and mushrooms then add them to the meat. Reduce to a medium heat.
Chop up peppers and add them as well. We use 20-25 of those little guys.
Add one stick of butter. Stir contents regularly. At this time preheat your oven for 350′.
Then stir in the stuffing mix along with the seasoning that comes with it.
Turn off the heat and cover it until you can see the liquid is absorbed stirring every so often. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.
Once the liquid has been absorbed and the mix has a sticky consistency, it’s ready to bake. We use a cast iron skillet to bake it in but any baking cookware will do 🙂
After you put it into your bakeware take a spatula and press the stuffing down firmly to pack it in.
Then bake it for 45 minutes to an hour at 350′. We baked this one for an hour, but it really depends on if you like the texture of your stuffing more or less dry. When it’s done the top should be dry and crunchy while the inside will still be slightly moist, or whatever your preference is.
Slice it up and enjoy! You’re going to love this stuffing and so will anyone else lucky enough to share it with you! We’ve even eaten leftovers for breakfast with eggs 🙂 You can add anything extra or subtract anything you don’t like. We’ve added potatoes to it before too, which was amazing and basically a meal within itself.
