Heartland Home Holiday Tour 2016
Welcome to the Heartland Home Holiday Tour 2016! As much as I love Christmas, which is a ton, I haven’t decorated much before this year. There were just always so many other things that seemed to take precedence (like having regular furnishings and decor lol). Aside from a tree and a couple of stockings we just didn’t do much more, however this year I’ve tried to start spreading the cheer throughout the house.
While I usually prefer a basically neutral decor palette, for this time of year I like adding in some warm traditional colors, cozy patterns, and of course a little bit of sparkle 😉
Yes, like our house, our tree is small. For the first 2 Christmases here we had a giant tree that we put up in the office because there was no way it would fit in our living room. It was huge and we loved it so much. So we would move furniture and position it so we were able see some of it from the living room. Then last year I decided having a tree that was more proportional to our space that we could actually see and enjoy as we relax in the living room was more important than cramming in the biggest tree possible. After looking for one in several stores we found our just-right tree at Big Lots. All of this trees ornaments are from Hobby Lobby. I opted for a drop cloth tree skirt because I ended up using the galvanized washtub we used last year for another project…oops lol.
Taj is loving the tree 😉
I added a couple of these adorable plaid pillows from Target around the house. The ‘Merry Christmas’, pom garlands, and stockings are from Target as well. I love the addition of lights around both sides of this doorway especially at nighttime.
My plan was to replace all our usual greenery with a Christmas version throughout the house. I also tried to incorporate patterned textiles with lots of red in each room. Such a simple and effective way to spread that falalala feeling 🙂 The cookie jar, plaid table runner, and hand towels came from Hobby Lobby.
I always have blue Mason jars all around the house but for this time of year I added some ‘Christmas’ scented potpourri I found at World Market in them. It smells amazing! It’s nice to have a light scent of Christmas time all through the house.
Brought Christmas into the bathroom with a small tree, some red berries, and a ‘Fresh Cut Christmas Tree’ sign along with that Christmas potpourri scent.
In the office/guest room adding a plaid throw to the bed, a snowflake pillow on the chair and some more red berries on the desk makes for a merry and bright work space 🙂
Could there be anything cozier that buffalo plaid flannel sheets? I think not, and Finn agrees 🙂 While I like keeping it simple but I also know I’ll be adding more decor elements in here next year.
Replaced our fig tree with this adorable Christmas tree in the sunroom. I also threw another plaid pillow back there along with some red berries in the chicken feeder for a bit more color. You can see this room from the front door now and this one pillow really draws your eye back there.
I’ll be honest this wasn’t nearly as much as I wanted to share with you! But I couldn’t bring myself to spoil the reveal of our finished kitchen remodel! It was extremely difficult to photograph the house being that the kitchen is in it’s center without giving too much away lol! I still felt like it would be worth it to share some rather than none at all, hopefully you agree 🙂 Because of this I already can’t wait for next year’s holiday tour!
