So in the middle of the craziness that is life I decided to make it a little crazier and do something I’ve been thinking about doing for a really long time, pursue a small business venture. I wanted to be able to share my love for all things home related with a small shop that reflected our own evolving style. I’ve always loved the idea of small businesses & as an adult I’ve often gone out of my way to support them. There’s something idyllic & so very American about small businesses. However, until now, fear has always held me back.
I’m sure my age played a role in my decision to take a risk. I think there are certain times in life where we spend some time reflecting on where we’ve been, where we are, & where we’re going. Or more specifically, where it is we want to go. On days when I don’t feel brave, because let’s face it there’s no manual on adulting & dealing with life’s responsibilities & decisions, I ask myself what will I think about the situation 5 years from now. Because the truth is I wish I could tell the 5 year ago me to put on my big girl pants & roll the dice 🙂 That being said I knew it would also be a lot of hard work, but obviously Ed & I aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty! Lol! So finally my question was if we’re gonna do it, why not now?
Besides I’ve been painting furniture & making things for our house long before it was a trendy thing to do so this was basically just taking it one step further 😉 & I’m loving the creative outlet! Plus I’ve just about become a full-time weekend junker/picker anyway! Midcounty Market offers vintage or as is treasures, repurposed one of a kind items, & furnishings made from scratch such as the beautiful farmhouse tables & signs we made 🙂
We’ve recently participated in 2 vintage market festivals so below are some pictures of our booth there 🙂
I’ve expressed my love of houses & home decor, but I think it’s deeper than a superficial desire for things to look pretty. Home has a special meaning for all of us; it isn’t just a physical structure, it’s a feeling too. It’s the place you wanna go at the end of the day. When I look at old houses I think about the families who lived there and the memories that were made. I like furnishings that are old because they too have a history & that’s what makes them special. Making our house a home by filling it with things we love has always been very important to me & it becomes the story that surrounds us. I also know that different pieces speak to us for different reasons. Now I hope to be able to help people tell their own story in that place that is most special to each of us…home 🙂
You can visit us @midcountymarket on Facebook, follow our entrepreneur & diy adventures even more closely @midcountyliving on Instagram, & our Etsy shop Midcounty Market will be set up soon 🙂 This little market is us taking that leap, and at the very least I’m hoping for an experience that is full of great memories of the places we go, the people we meet along the way, & inspiration that moves us forward.
Midcounty Market is just one facet of some of the plans we have in the works & as usual I can’t wait to share them with you! Wish us luck!
