Painting Our Front Door

Hello there friend!

I painted our front door! After painting all the interior doors in our home (see that article HERE) it took me awhile to decide what to do with our front door. I knew I didn’t want to paint it the same color as the others and that’s about it. Then one of my sweet buddies on Instagram (you can follow me HERE) talked about this beautiful color Lichen by Fusion Mineral Paint. I had never used this brand before but loved the color so much I thought I’d give it a whirl and get to painting our front door! And guess what? I love it!

The Door Before

Here’s a look at what our door looked like before. We purchased this door from Lowe’s a couple months ago because I wanted to let some more light in. You can find the door HERE. It comes in this color and is ready to paint. It was an easy surface to paint. I’ve painted a lot (this might be an understatement lol) so I didn’t tape off the windows or the hardware. I was just very careful πŸ˜‰

The Paint I Used

The paint I used was Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Lichen, which you can find below. As I mentioned I’ve painted a lot and used many different brands and types of paint. Well this paint is the bomb dot com! Not exaggerating! But I’ll talk a bit more about the paint later. First you can take a look at how painting our front door turned out for yourself πŸ™‚

More About the Paint

When I stepped back from the door to take a look I was shocked by how much this color changed the space! I love the deep moody green that reads a bit grey depending on the lighting. I did also paint the other side of it and it looks great from the street as well!

Here are some more things to know about this paint

  1. It is hands down the smoothest paint I’ve ever used! I was going to use a sponge roller but after cutting in all the edges and details with a brush I realized I didn’t need to.
  2. It dries really quickly! I loved this about it but just keep this in mind and work on area at a time.
  3. The coverage is AMAZING! The paint seems fairly thin so I was surprised by how well it covered. It took me one coat and then I just had to touch up a couple spots once it was dry.
  4. The color! It’s the perfect color if you love neutrals but also want to add a bit of interest to a space. I ended up loving the color so much that after painting our front door I decided to paint the chalkboard sunroom door too! You can see how that door turned out below! And you can click HERE to check out their site for more information.

The Results

Again I could not be happier with this paint and the results! If you follow me on Instagram I shared some videos while I was painting this door and how amazed I was that it covered the chalkboard paint in ONE coat! I bought the 500 ml bottle of paint and after both these doors (both sides of the front door, 1 side of the sunroom) I still have about a quarter jar left!

I’m glad I waited for the perfect inspiration to strike before finally I painted our front door because I’m not sure I would have went this direction had I not seen it in someone else’s home πŸ™‚ I wish I had found this paint sooner for sure, but I’m definitely hooked from here on out! I would highly recommend it for your next paint project!
