Turning a Round Table into a Coffee Table

Hey there friend!

So a couple of years ago I found the PERFECT coffee table at one of my favorite local vintage shops. It was what looked like a round table that had been cut down to coffee table height. But then I did the thing I think we all do sometimes & I hesitated, went home to think about it, & when I went back it was gone. So I figured it just wasn’t meant to be. Besides I already had an awesome mirrored table that I loved & there were so many other things that I really needed to get before I started replacing items, right?

But for whatever reason that round coffee table just stuck with me & as I’ve been restyling our living room the last couple of months I’ve kept an eye out for one that’s similar. Then it occurred to me, why am I looking for something to buy that I could easily make. Duh! Lol! So my search changed & I began looking for an old table instead. I had a pretty specific idea of what I was looking for too. I knew I wanted it to be old, have a specific style of base, have wheels, & be a certain width. A pretty tall order I know! But I’ve found between Craigslist, vintage shops, & the Facebook market you can find almost anything if you’re patient.

And guess what….:D

Cutting the Table Down to Size

We brought it in & set it in place to be sure of the scale but just right! So we took it apart & Ed cut it down as you can see in the videos below.

Paint & Wax

After cutting it down to the right height Ed reattached the top & I went to town with some chalk paint. I used some left over Valspar chalk paint I had in Kids Gloves. It took 3 coats of paint for full coverage. Then once it was dry I waxed it with Miss Mustard Seeds wax. Let me just say that this is the absolute best furniture wax I ever used! It’s my favorite! You can find the link for it below along with my all time favorite paint brush 🙂

The Finished Product

And here’s the finished result 🙂 Now I can’t remember exactly what the one from the vintage shop looked like but I’m thinkin it wasn’t anywhere near this awesome! 😉 I love how it fills the space. I love the round shape after having a rectangular one in here for so long. And to be completely honest I LOVE the fact that it isn’t mirrored, so much more practical lol! Plus now I don’t have to worry about my nephew falling into any sharp corners! Bonus! Ha!

It’s always more special when you can make it or do it yourself & always 100% worth the wait & the elbow grease 😉 Hope y’all are making & filling your homes with things that bring you joy!
