Ceiling and Moulding Paint Colors

I started by painting the ceiling and the window and door mouldings. I chose Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace for this. I have long loved white paint and am always searching for the “perfect” white. But I’ve come to realize like all colors white paint isn’t a one size fits all. It’s really determined by the lighting in room. However, Chantilly Lace can be described as a clean but slightly soft white in comparison to the Behr Ultra Pure White paint I had previously painted in here.

Why I Chose This Paint Color

The reason I chose to paint the ceiling is because right before we moved in we painted as much of the interior as we could with a paint sprayer. This gave everything a crisp blank canvas feeling, but we used a paint with a higher sheen finish, which I don’t like, especially on the ceilings. So this felt like the perfect time to make the change before I install the new flooring.

I choose a flat finish for this entire room and could not be happier! I’ve come to realize a flat paint does a good job at hiding imperfections in older homes after years of life. Now you can really admire the unique and beautiful tongue and groove wood ceiling without your eyes being drawn to the shine of every little imperfection.

After I painted the ceiling and all of the trim in the room I moved on to the walls. I had decided to go darker in this room for a few reasons.

First it will be and was the original dining room, and I just think that calls for a little moody drama 😉 The color I chose is Felted Wool by Sherwin Williams and it is strikingly close to a historical color and one that I can see peeking out beneath the layers of paint on the ceiling around the edges where the crown moulding was.

I also wanted it to tie in with the wallpaper mural in our kitchen, which you can see below.

And lastly, I’m just ready to add some flavor to the house! I’ll probably always love crisp white walls, especially when it comes to beadboard and other tongue and groove wall architecture, but I’m ready for some color and contrast too!

And how fitting is that paint name for us?!

I am SO incredibly happy with this color and how the room is coming together! I’m currently working on installing the chair railing and then there’s only a couple things left to do before the flooring, which I’m the MOST excited about!

I shared what we chose for flooring HERE!
