Victorian Office Inspiration

I’ve been looking for this style of desk since I started renovating the last upstairs bedroom of our Victorian farmhouse, which was supposed to be our office. Until I recently decided to switch it and the guest room. So now the bigger brighter that was the guest room will our office instead. Then when I’m finished renovating the last room it will be the guest room.

You can see the original renovation of this room HERE!

And the new guest room renovation was put on hold until I could decide what to do with the chimney in there. It’s been a whole thing lol! If you follow along on Instagram you know ha! But I’ve finally found a solution, and that reno will be moving forward shortly. In the meantime I’ve been planning our the new office space and this desk is such an inspiration. Old things always are for me 🙂

About the Plantation Style Desk

I’ve learned that in the world of interior design, certain styles stand the test of time, transcending trends and fads to become timeless classics. One such enduring and elegant style is the Plantation style, known for its rich history, refined aesthetics, and the embodiment of Southern charm.

The Desk Origin and History

The Plantation style finds its roots in the grand plantation homes of the American South during the 18th and 19th centuries. These homes were characterized by expansive estates, large verandas, and meticulously designed interiors. Plantation style furniture reflects the influences of European, Caribbean, and Southern design, resulting in a distinctive blend of elegance and comfort.

Characteristics of Plantation Style Desks

  1. Fine Craftsmanship: Plantation style desks are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship. They are often made from high-quality hardwoods such as mahogany, cherry, or walnut, showcasing the skilled artistry of the furniture makers.
  2. Timeless Design Elements: These desks feature timeless design elements such as turned legs, intricate carvings, and raised panel details. The careful attention to detail and emphasis on symmetry contribute to the overall grace and sophistication of plantation style furniture. The unique upper glass display cabinet on this particular desk might be my favorite feature.
  3. Quality Materials: Plantation style desks are crafted using premium materials, ensuring durability and longevity. The choice of rich, dark woods adds warmth to the furniture, creating a sense of timeless luxury.

Victorian Office Design Plan

The behind the scenes part of my job is a lot of computer work. Until now I’ve had a makeshift office in an unfinished room on the main floor and typically work from the kitchen or living room. So I’m excited to finally create a beautiful space to work in and enjoy.

This side of the room will be the desk workspace and the other side will have a seating area. You can see I’ve been testing out some paint samples in here too 😉 And below I’m sharing a little sneak peek of a wallpaper option I’m absolutely smitten with! Especially since this room overlooks the garden 🙂

Each piece adds a story to our home, and this particular one will also add a ton of function in our office. Stay tuned for more as the office design plan unfolds!
